ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- According to Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine, Red Sox reliever Andrew Bailey has been cleared to start throwing after being examined by Dr. Thomas Graham Wednesday.
Bailey has been sidelined since the beginning of the season with an injured ulnar collateral ligament in his right hand, having undergone surgery on the thumb.
"Boy, he's been working," Valentine said of Bailey. "He's one of those guys I'm sure we're going to have to hold him back and proceed in a conservative effort."
